Thanks for the tip. I had to use firefox to get a good copy of the file. It does seem faster to load up and get into the game.
33  General / Off-topic / PS3 motion sensor demo. on: January 20, 2010, 07:42:08 AM

The link below shows a demo of the PS3 motion sensor that is suppose to come out in the near future. If you watch the demo to the end, they have a character in armor fighting with shield and sword. Also show the use of a bow fighting what you could call orcs. Wonder how such a device would work out with LOTRO?

Anyway, thought it was worth a look. I wonder if they can retrofit the system to PCs and games like LOTRO?

Since I use my 2333sw monitor for pc only and I use headphones, not having HDMI is fine with me. If you need sound through you monitor, I guess you will need HDM from what I have read.

With DVI or HDMI, you will need new cables. I have had very good luck with purchases from
http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp

I have bought cables and printer cartridges from them and they have worked for me. The only problem I had was the cost of shipping was more expensive than buying a cable from them.

Oh by the way, what does you video card support? HMDI or DVI or VGA?  You may need a converter type connector to go from your video card to the cable connecting to the monitor.

I am using a Samsung lcd 2333sw that I picked up at Bestbuy for $209 on sale. You can see the specs at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16824001314

It is only 5ms, but I see no ghosting in the few mmos I have tried. Not sure what happens if your try the very fast race type games, but I think 5ms will do in most cases. Good luck.
38  Lord of the Rings Online / Lore-master / FYI Direct Damage, Tactical Damage and Tactical Heal rating, Oh MY! on: November 20, 2009, 10:48:04 AM
I have been always been confused about some of the tactical damage modifiers and finally came across the following:

Direct Tactical Damage:
"That legacy should increase the damage shown in red (not green) in the tooltips of all your skills except Staff Strike. For a Lore-master, the vast majority of your skills are tactical (if you read some of the tooltips for your skills, it will say at the top what type of skill it is - tactical, melee, ranged, etc.) Direct damage means the up-front, non-over time damage. This will not affect the damage over time tics of Burning Embers, for example. But it will increase its initial damage. This is the #1 legacy for many of the Lore-masters out there.
Damage shown in red font is direct damage, damage shown in green font is damage over time."

Tactical Damage Rating is new for SOM.

Tactical Heal rating new for SOM. If you want to be able to do max heals this looks like it is necessary. Also, if you want to do max Power transfers, this is mandatory. The higher this ranking the more power you can transfer.

The above seems best  covered in http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?p=4192963
39  Lord of the Rings Online / Items / Mirkwood effect on existing legendary weapons and items - Warning on: November 18, 2009, 09:43:01 PM
Found the following info in the lotro forums:

"If you have a legendary that can reach level 50, but it hasn't yet, and it's already past level 20, you need to get it to level 50 BEFORE Siege of Mirkwood launches or you WILL lose out on the level 50 legacy.

The reason for this is that instead of gaining legacies at 10, 30 and 50, legendaries will gain legacies at 10, 20 and 30. There is no distinction between pre-SoM and post-SoM legendaries when reforging. Instead of gaining a new legacy at level 50, one of the existing legacies will recieve a 1-tier upgrade instead.

This is probably a minor concern for DPS classes that will quickly swap to the higher-DPS SoM weapons, but for class items or first/second ages with great legacies that you may want to keep for awhile, you probably don't want them to have fewer legacies than they're capable of having.

With 12 days until the launch, and only six bounty runs required to max out, there's still time. Spread the word to your kinmates."

Thankyou for the offer to post the picture, but now everything seems to be working fine. Not sure what is happening. So I guess I can say the problem is solved, just not sure how it happened.

Hmm, I do have another question with regards to my login problem with Firefox. I captured the message I see when trying to login and put it in  the Paint program to create a bmp file.I tried the insert Image button, but not sure how to use it. So nothing seem to  happen. Can we attach or show a picture in these forums or is that a bad idea?
43  General / Off-topic / Re: new homebuilt computer... any suggestions? on: October 29, 2009, 04:37:08 AM
I think waiting on the video card is a good idea. The prices should come down after the upcoming Christmas holidays and hopefully some competition from Nvida.

I just wonder when programs will really start taking advantage of 64 bit multi-core processors?

I wonder if LOTRO is designed to use multi-core processors? I mean it runs on them, but does it a significant performance boost on 3 or 4 core processors vs a single or dual core?

Hmm, now that I think about it, I see no mention of a monitor. Christmas present? Oh wait, maybe an ATI card that support 3 monitors for that LOTRO surround screen view. Smiley

Thankyou for the feedback. Guess the problems lie somewhere on my machine. Most likely culprit are the video drivers. I unfortunately forgot my own rules and updated to the latest drivers and did not keep a backup of the old ones. Foolish.

Checking the LOTRO and ATI forums the problem seems to reside in the ATI drivers loosing focus in LOTRO and possibly things like Firefox. Managed to find an older set of drivers on the video card manufacturers sites and I am going to try those. Hopefully they are old enough to avoid what ever bug they introduced in the latest video card drivers.
