16  General / Off-topic / WinterBorn, Song/video on: December 10, 2010, 03:54:52 PM
I am a John Ringo fan, sifi. He made many references to Winterborn, so I finally had to check it out. Found this version of the song set to a video, that even seems appropriate for the battle before the gates of Mordor.

While this is not about Lord of the Rings, it is very well done. If you have a few minutes, I think you may enjoy it.

You can also check out some of John Ringo's books at Try the Free ebooks section.

19  General / Off-topic / Anyone know how to customize the lotro forum search tools. on: August 13, 2010, 07:21:28 AM
Anyone know how to customize the lotro forum search tools. I  tried adding folder(s) but it never seemed to work. I most likely did something wrong but not sure what.

I want to search for all new posts, BUT, not show any that have the tag  "server name, pvp"
I  have no interest in pvp and unfortunately,  a fast  majortity of daily posts concern pvp. So, I am  just trying to cut-down the clutter.

Help appreciated.

Interesting article. Slightly off topic, unless you believe the pitch that this is a different way to play mmo, check out

Short commercial in front, but interesting trailer.
21  General / Off-topic / Starwars the old republic trailer - worth a look IMO on: June 15, 2010, 04:34:34 PM
I think the guy in that wrote the narrative about the starwars trailer is right. Bioware should forget making the game, just make movies. Amazing how far animation has progressed.

Worth a look.

I liked the part about low level visitors being protected by event security forces. Smiley
23  Kinship / General Discussion / Re: LOTRO goes to Free to play mode. on: June 09, 2010, 04:41:49 AM
With the upcoming expected influx of new players, how will new kin membership be affected? Do we still except members quickly, now that they may just be running thru for a short time or worse yet Gold miners in disguise?

New influx of players, join kin, clean out kin house, sell goods, sell resulting gold, leave game. Rinse and repeat?

How do we protect kin house chest of items? Do we worry about it?

Sorry, but I have seen something similar happen in other mmo's and kins, and I do expect the worse with the upcoming change.
24  Kinship / General Discussion / LOTRO goes to Free to play mode. on: June 04, 2010, 08:52:09 AM

I wonder how this is going to play out. Any one understand what the benefit is to stay subscribed?  I read it and I could not understand the benefit.

Also, note, no update to the game until this comes out and it will not be out until the fall. So no game update until then. Sad situation IMO.
25  Lord of the Rings Online / Items / Re: Finding the Right LI for a Loremaster on: May 28, 2010, 02:58:33 PM
For the Lore Master book, I recommend:

Target Frire Damage Skills Resist Rating
Target Tactical Damage Skills Resist Rating  *** Mandatory
Traget Physical Resist Rating

(very hard to get the above 3 on lvl 65 so far. May be easier to get on lvl 60 1st age or 2nd age. I think the lvl 60 1st age and 2nd age lore master books are very useable up to lvl 65)

Lore Master Staff (lvl 65 required):

Tactical skills Direct Damage *** Mandatory
Staff strike Cooldown
Share the Power increase
Fire skills Critical Multiplier

all others are added benefit on a Lore book or weapon. GL

Thanks for the info. A useful tool for tweaking/planing out virtues.
27  Lord of the Rings Online / Crafting / Are Fortifying foods worth the effort and cost? on: March 10, 2010, 05:33:11 AM
While discussing the vol 3  bk 1 increase in NPC resistance rating (Turbine found an old bug and fixed it, so now the lvl 40+ NPCs resistance is supposibly back to 10%) I started looking at player resistance to NPC attacks.

I assumed that I should always use Fortifying foods but never paid much attention to the actual resistance contribution. I moused over the different resistance numbers on my character sheet and marked down the percentage of each (without any fortifying adds). I then applied each Fortifying food type and noted the increase in protection. I was surprised to see that on my lvl 65 characers, the average increase in protection with the highest level fortifying food in game was an average of 3.5%.

It seems to me that such a low percentage increase is really not worth the farming time to create the special mats needed for each recepie vs the actual increase in protection. I burn through so many fear pots even when using lamb and barely soup that it just does no seem worth the effort of making fortifying food.

Anyone else have any insights into fortifying foods?

29  Kinship / General Discussion / NPC Resist bug in 3.1 release on: March 05, 2010, 12:18:41 PM
Seems that resists have been going up in the game since 3.1s release. Check out the thread at

It does have a short acknowledgement by Turbine in at least two different entries.

Seems that if the mob is higher than you, the more resists/resistance to your tactical skills. From some of the replies, I guess it effects end game instance/raids more than anything else.

Thanks for the info. It seems that internet service is also a premium at most hotels and billed by the hour and connection speeds and connectivity also is very suspect. One less thing to carry around and worry about loosing. Smiley
