General Discussion / My Departure
« on: October 15, 2011, 06:22:52 AM »
Dear friends,

Family life is wonderful, and challenging. We spend so much time together, we know each other well enough to finish each otherís sentences, we weather good times and bad by sticking together. And we take each other for granted, get on each otherís nerves, and step on each otherís toes. But we are family, and we love each other no matter what.

I have been frustrated with the game since the expansion, because of way too many bugs and confusing changes. Itís also been extremely frustrating that few others seem to see what I see. At the same time I have been concerned by certain dynamics in the kin that I have tried hard and unsuccessfully to improve: lack of support for our roleplayers, lack of casual group activities (not big planned events that take up lots of time, but just little ways we can have fun together), and a big shift in focus toward personal achievement and away from group exploration and companionship. People have been racing through the new content without stopping to make sure that everyone else has people to play with if they want to be with friends. In other words, it just hasnít felt very kin-like lately.

This past week, probably due to RL stress more than anything else, somehow I found myself as part of the problem rather than part of the solution. Rather than setting a fun tone for the group, as an officer is supposed to do, I dragged everyone down into my own doom-and-gloominess. And on Thursday night, I let some comments from membersójust in an ordinary conversationóget under my skin and touch the wrong nerve. I snapped at people who did not deserve it and behaved very badly.

I failed you as an officer, but more importantly as a friend. I could have said Ďlook guys, Iím not feeling great, so give me a break tonight.í But instead of reaching out I lashed out, and none of you deserved that.

Iím not really sure what Iím going to do now, but I know that I am not serving your interests the way I should be at the moment, so it is probably best for me to step aside.

Know that I care about you all very much, I still consider you my family, and I will always answer the call should you ever need my help. Please take care of each other. I miss you already.

Ideas and Suggestions / Friday Night Mischief and Pre-Mischief RP
« on: October 06, 2011, 04:26:22 PM »
Greetings friends. I'm not sure how many folks will be interested in grouping this week as opposed to continuing on with RoI, but El, Mericc, and I will be putting a group together for anyone interested in joining. Possibly Forges for troll-deeding, but other ideas are welcome. Come out and play with your new post-RoI stats and skills! I know I'm still shaky and others will be too, so this is our chance to practice and experiment in a completely no-pressure environment.

Due to lack of interest, I've stopped spending the hour before our mischief at the Pony for stories and songs (I think the npcs are tired of my standard playlist lol), but I am still reserving that hour (8-9pm est) for RP activities. If anyone cares to join me for In-Character slayer deeding before the main group run, feel free to contact me. This week I'll probably be doing wights in the Bonevales (it fits the story I'm currently writing), but I'm open to assisting with other needs as well. I'm looking to build my RP skills, so please excuse me if I'm a little clunky--I'm far better at scripting than spontaneous dialogue. If you have particular character or story thoughts that you'd like me to consider ahead of time, please send me an in-game mail.

See you Friday!

Ideas and Suggestions / Friday Night Mischief: Helegrod Drake Wing
« on: August 24, 2011, 05:49:45 AM »
Greetings friends! I'm hoping to take a break from OD and spend a mischief-filled Friday night with you all. I'd love to take a group through the Helegrod drake wing this week (level 57 so that people can get credit for the daily as well) if we can get the numbers to pull it off. It isn't very long, and it will help unlock the dragon for those who don't have it available yet.

If you are available, please let me know here, or in-game. We'll gather as usual at the Pony, and start fighting at 9pm est.
We will pull in allies or pug to fill empty slots, if we have a good number of Tinnu to join us.

In case our numbers are small this week, please send me suggestions for your 3 or 6-man needs (I know 16th Hall is still on the list for a few folks, any others?).

Hope to see you Friday!

Ideas and Suggestions / They're taking the hobbits...
« on: August 13, 2011, 08:25:29 AM »
To Isengard, to Isengard!

Yes, I hear you all groaning, but c'mon, you know we have to do this  ;D

What: They're Taking the Tinnu to Isengard! A grand parade of hobbits and hobbit-escorts through the lands of Enedwaith to the borders of Dunland

When: TBD, but the weekend of Sept 17-18 seems logical, please post any particular day/time you would prefer or if you have any specific times when you are unavailable.

Where: Starting at Fordirith, ending at the entrance to Dunland

Who: Bring any character, preferably one that can safely navigate Enedwaith, but we'll defend any lower level character who wants to participate. If you have a hobbit, please bring it! A few hunters would be good to help with ports. We want as many Tinnu, friends, and allies as possible, so spread the word widely once we set the final date.

Why: Seriously?

The Plan: To mark the beginning of our dark and perilous journey into the Gap of Rohan, let us gather by the campfire, share poems, short tales, bad jokes, etc. to lift our spirits before we ride into battle. We shall distribute provisions to our troops, and strike fear into the hearts of our enemies by the lighting of fireworks. Finally, we will escort our hobbits on horseback in slow procession to the very edge of Enedwaith. From there, hunters will be available to port you to your next destination, or simply set up camp and wait for the onward path to be opened!

We are a very stylish group of warriors, and we are soon approaching the lands of the great horsemen, so prizes shall be awarded for the best outfit/horse combinations. Start planning your look now!

Volunteers are needed for the following roles: Provisioners (distribute food, beverages, fireworks, pipeweed), Entertainers (musicians, storytellers--please keep your poems/tales brief; I'll do the theme song, and we should have someone read the lament for Eorl the Young), Security Guards (two lvl 65s willing to jump into action to defend the parade against anything we accidentally aggro, so we don't disrupt the procession too much), Donors (party provisions, prizes--I think we have a huge stock of pipeweed in the kin chests so that's one item already covered)

Thoughts? Suggestions? Volunteers? Day/time preferences? Post here or send me in-game mail!

Geography / The real Shire: a photo comparison

On my recent vacation, I was fortunate to stumble across the real Shire, rainbow and all!  See the photographic evidence on my MyLOTRO page:

Coming soon--the real Great Barrow!

Quests / 16th Hall run needed
« on: August 04, 2011, 03:33:39 PM »
Greetings friends,

Our kinmate Hekil has a burg (Harwald) who needs his class quest in the 16th Hall. He plays fairly early in the day, so I know many of you probably are not available when he is online, but if anyone is around late afternoon/early evening, let me know and I'll try to coordinate a day/time when we can help him out.

Roleplaying / RP Events Pre-RoI
« on: July 09, 2011, 12:44:09 PM »
Greetings friends! For those of you with alts on Landroval, a fascinating series of RP events is occurring in anticipation of Isengard in September.

Perhaps we should consider something fun on Nimrodel to prepare for the RoI launch. Some kind of gathering? Let's put our heads together and come up with something exciting!

Announcements / Anniversaries
« on: July 03, 2011, 12:59:30 PM »
Greetings friends! I just noticed that in less than two weeks, I will have my first anniversary with the Tinnu. It has been a truly wonderful first year! I was flipping through the kinship roster and noticed that we have many more kin with anniversaries in June and July. Let us raise our glasses to them and wish them a happy anniversary and many more great years to come!

(and anyone I missed  ;D )

Best wishes,

Items / Summerfest loot
« on: June 28, 2011, 05:17:03 PM »
Greetings, friends. I'm trying for various festival-related deeds, and in the process have gathered a fair number of festival tokens. I have all the loot I want to barter for, and the tokens are bound to me, but I can barter them for unbound items and give them to others. So if you have a wallpaper, map, outfit, or other item you would like but don't have enough tokens to obtain, let me know and I'll get it for you.

Announcements / Blogmoot comes to Nimrodel July 2
« on: June 27, 2011, 07:09:01 AM »
Greetings, friends! The quarterly in-game gathering of those who blog about all things LOTRO will be this Saturday July 2, 4pm EST. This time I shall be hosting the event at my home on the Nimrodel server, 7 Haven Way, Iavasant, in Falathlorn.

Blogmoot is an in-game gathering of bloggers from MyLOTRO and other sites, who enjoy writing about the world of LOTRO and wish to meet others who share that passion. We discuss our blogs, share ideas about writing, and think of ways to promote and support our community of creative souls. All bloggers are welcome, new and old, whether you blog about game tips, fiction, music, poetry, photo galleries, recipes, or anything else.

If you aren't a blogger but enjoy reading others' MyLOTRO work, feel free to stop by and meet some of your favorite writers. If you've never written a post in your life but are curious about trying it out, come and ask questions--you'll never find a more supportive and helpful community to work with.

Items / Festival maps
« on: June 23, 2011, 09:41:36 AM »
Greetings friends! It is that time again, when maps become available for bartering at the seasonal festival. This festival offers four maps, only two of which apply to the Cartographile deed (Ettenmoors and North Barrow Downs). You may wish to collect all of them, but for those of you who only have interest in the title, these maps work similarly to festival fortunes: you only need place the item in your inventory temporarily to get credit, and then you may trade it away.

I have the Ettenmoors map if anyone needs to use it for the deed, and I'll be collecting the two Lothlorien non-deed maps for my house. If you have a map available for deed-hunters, please post here.

Quests / Hidden deeds (SPOILER ALERT)
« on: June 18, 2011, 07:04:59 AM »
Greetings, friends! I had a request last night to post information about a couple of fun hidden exploration deeds and how to find them. Before reading any further, if you want to stumble upon these yourself, stop here!

The information below comes from the forums. My favorite threads for deed lists and explanations are the following:

Moria Deeds:

Mirkwood, Enedwaith, and others:

And now for the fun part:

The Pits of Moria - Title: Blind Leaper
 Jump into different Moria pits.
*Note sometimes this does not register from lag. Apparently it has been noted that if you die from landing at the
bottom, or survive the fall it doesnt count. You need to die by misadventure only*
-Jazargund (The Stone Hall) pits - go to 3.7s, 106.2w and jump West
-The Great Delving pits, north of The Dolven-view - go to 6.8s, 112.0w and jump East
-Menem-berej in Silvertine Lodes (The Forgotten Treasury) - go to 11.0s, 112.8w and jump South East
-The Grand Stair pits (outside the instance) - go to 10.4s, 104.0w and jump South West
-the lava pit at the Endless Stair in Nud-melek - go to 10.1s, 100.6w and jump East
-The Bridge of Khazad-dŻm pit jumping in from as north as possible on the west side of it (jumping in from the bridge fragment doesn't work) - go to 7.2s, 99.8w and jump North East (and don't forget to shout "Fly, you fools!" before plunging to your death  ;D )
Ridge Racer (Hidden Deed) - Title: Ridge-Racer
Get to the top of High Hollin (42.8s, 10.8w) - (Original jump at 43.0s, 9.4w)
It involves some tricky jumps to get up on that ridge, but this video shows how it is done:

Master Ascender title: climb both towers in Ost Galadh. The first is the one you climb in the epilogue quests, the second is a little less obvious  :) There are some videos that show the path:
There is one evil jump that took me forever to get--it finally worked when I got on my horse, so try that if you're having trouble.

These are all great fun to try, so I highly recommend them. Enjoy your explorations!
